Drip Irrigation Including Micro Irrigation
At PSWI we are drip irrigation specialists with extensive experience in all application areas.
DRIP FOR ROW CROPS
Row crop drip irrigation was first introduced in the early 1970s for use in strawberries and pole-grown tomatoes. Row crop drip irrigation is typically reserved for high-value row crops because it enhances their growth and ensures a high-quality crop.
DRIP FOR TREES & VINES
Drip irrigation was first introduced in the 1970s in California, and by the 1990s it was being widely used to irrigate trees and vines.
MICRO SYSTEMS
Offering lower application rates than a full coverage sprinkler system while still wetting a larger soil area than drip, microsystems have become a popular compromise between the two. The increase in popularity has caused manufacturers to release a wide range of options varying in flow rate, spray pattern, and pressure- compensating features that are perfect for any application. Typically, one micro-sprinkler or micro sprayer services one tree and can be moved as the tree ages, which also offers a small degree of frost protection, making micro-sprinklers an ideal permanent irrigation system. PSWI carries top-quality micro-sprinkler products, including the Nelson R5, Netafim Supernets, Toro Micro sprinklers, and Bowsmith Jets.
SPRINKLER SYSTEMS: PORTABLE AND PERMANENT
PORTABLE SPRINKLER SYSTEMS
We also specialize in a variety of portable sprinkler systems, we are experts in application uniformity, portable systems, as well as solid sets. We handle aluminum pipe and the Certa-Lok/Certa-Set Yellowmine PVC system. Aluminum sprinkler pipe is highly versatile and can be used either as a solid set system or a portable hand-move system. Although sometimes labor-intensive, it is an efficient irrigation method for germination and high-value row crops.
Developed and patented by Jim Clare, CEO of Pacific Southwest Irrigation, the Certa-Lok and Certa-Set Yellowmine PVC systems are best known for their efficiency, tight water seals, durability, and low maintenance.
PERMANENT SPRINKLER SYSTEMS
Permanent sprinkler systems, also known as solid set systems, are typically constructed as underground systems using PVC pipe and high uniformity sprinklers. They are considered the “cadillac” of sprinkler irrigation.
At PSWI we install the following sprinkler systems:
- Trees and Vines: high uniformity sprinkler application, frost protection, dust suppression, and ease of operation
- Row Crop: high uniformity and germination, cooling, ease of operation, and high levels of production
- Forage crop (alfalfa, pasture, etc.): center pivot irrigation, wheel lines, hand move systems, Big Gun systems, and linears.
- Environmental Control: dust suppression, cooling, wastewater application, animal cooling, evaporation, and frost control.
PUMP STATIONS
Pacific Southwest Irrigation designs, rents, and sells electric, diesel, and PTO pump stations, deep-well turbines, centrifugal short-coupled turbines, propellers, and self-priming pumps.
SURFACE IRRIGATION
A well-designed surface irrigation system can be equally efficient as other systems, although they can be difficult to operate and farm around. These systems also require expert ground leveling and slope maintenance. We are knowledgeable in row-crop irrigation, borders, siphon tubes, gated pipes, ditch liners, alfalfa valves, overflow valves/gates, and polytube.
PIVOTS AND LINEARS
One of the most efficient methods of irrigation are pivots and linears. Waste is reduced, resources are conserved, and crop yield increases due to the uniform application of water over the crop. Additionally, pivots and linears require little maintenance as well as low labor requirements, since the system is automated. Pivots and linears are typically used for forage crops and can manage fields on a grade of up to 15%, making them a better choice than flood irrigation.
TURF GRASS & SOD SYSTEMS
PSWI specializes in irrigation systems for turfgrass and sod. This includes pivots, linears, Certa-Set, aluminum pipe, pump and filter stations, pipelines, and parts rentals. These irrigation materials can be shipped worldwide.
FOOD PROCESSOR SERVICE, EFFICIENT DISPOSAL, DUST CONTROL
We maintain an inventory of stock items used by major food processors. PSWI offers rental and installation services for wastewater as well as dust control systems.
DAIRY AND LIVESTOCK SYSTEM AND PARTS
Our dairy clientele rely on us for a wide variety of products and services, including pipe, pumps, gates, valves, aerators, sprays for cooling, temporary rental systems, system installation, system design, and layout for forage crops, drainage, and effluent handling.
FILTRATION
Filtration is a major component of any pressurized system. Well-designed and specified filtration systems are a specialty of the company. Pacific Southwest Irrigation stocks and services all filters, including gravity screens, screen filters, vacuum assist automated screens, disc filters, sand separators, sand media filters, traveling or rotating trash screens, self-cleaning suction screens, and simple trash barriers.
PIPE AND FITTINGS
ALUMINUM PIPE & FITTINGS
Over the years, the number of aluminum pipe manufacturers has decreased, although demand remains the same. Aluminum pipe has many uses in irrigation systems, where it is typically used in solid set systems. Our inside sales carry extensive knowledge and experience with selling, renting, and installing aluminum pipe.
CERTA-LOK PIPE & FITTINGS
Introduced and developed by Jim Clare, CEO of Pacific SouthWest Irrigation, Certa-Lok is an efficient and durable portable irrigation system. We keep an extensive inventory of fittings and pipe, as Certa-Lok has a steady demand equal to that of drip systems and solid set systems.
HDPE AND MDPE
Polyethylene includes High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE), Medium Density Polyethylene (MDPE). HDPE pipe is commonly used in irrigation because of its durability, flexibility, zero susceptibility to leaks, and does not corrode or become brittle in low temperatures. Unlike PVC or stainless steel pipe, HDPE can be joined seamlessly, it is fused not coupled. MDPE has the same advantages of HDPE, but is slightly more flexible and is less dense than HDPE. Pipe sizes range from 2”- 48”.
PVC
PVC pipe is used as a buried pipeline for manifolds, sub-main lines, transport lines, and solid set systems, which has been a standard for 50 years. At Pacific Southwest Irrigation, we stock ½”-24” pipe, both IPS and PIP sizes, gasket and solvent weld in classes 63, 100, 125, 160, 200, and Schedule 40 and 80.
ADS CORRUGATED PIPE
Advanced Drainage Systems manufactures corrugated pipe in either single-wall or double-wall, which is soil tight and watertight, and can be an economical option for culverts or low-pressure pipelines where large diameters are specified. It is used extensively for drainage in sizes ranging from 3”-12”, solid and perforated, and for transmission lines up to 60”.
TRAVELING/BIG SPRINKLER GUN
Traveling sprinkler guns are used extensively in the East and Northeast for supplemental irrigation. In the Southwest they are used for sports fields, such as polo fields. They can be expensive and labor-intensive, and also require high pressure.
NURSERY
Propagation of plants for agricultural landscapes requires both uniformity and a sound design. We install systems to achieve proper growth when the crop is young so it matures accordingly and produces the desired yield.
